One of the most beautiful places of Himachal Pradesh is Mcleod Ganj. It is the suburb of Dharamshala in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. The colloquial name of the place is Little Lhasa or Dhasa which is majorly pronounced by the residing Tibetans. In Mcleod Ganj, you will find that mostly the people belong to Tibetan culture. The name has been put after the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, Sir Donald Friell Mcleod.
Mcleod Ganj was named after Donald Mcleod who used to be the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab during the 1850s. From early on, Mcleod Ganj had become a civilian settlement outside Dharamshala. This place was devastated in 1905 due to an earthquake. Then it was in 1960, that Dalai Lama arrived here and it was only due to his arrival that Mcleod Ganj became a splendid centre of attraction for Tibetan and Buddhism cultures.
Bhagsu Falls. The rich and luxury greenery with startling sceneries takes the breath away and leaves you with a mesmerizing experience to remember lifelong.
Bhagsunath Temple. The temple is also known as Bhagsunag Temple and is located at a height of about 1770 meters above the sea level. The temple encompasses thick greenery surrounding the place, it encourages great tranquillity and peace.
Namgyal Monastery. Following Buddhism, the Namgyal Monastery has very peaceful vibes to it. The place also consists of multiple temples, shrines bookstores and other memorial shops.
Kasol Music Festival. The Kasol Music Festival is one of the youth festivals that is held on 30 December-31 December every year. The festival is a great celebration for music, dance, and other enthusiastic concerts.
Minjar Fair. The Minjar Festival is celebrated at Chowgan in Chamba district in the state Himachal Pradesh. Held in the month of July and August it is celebrated for a period of about one week.
Mcleod Ganj can be travelled at any time of the year. The summers are perfect for trekking and sightseeing. During the winter, the mountains are filled with thick snow that is perfect for a honeymoon trip.
By Air. The nearest airport is Gaggal Airport. It is located at an approximate distance of 20 km from McLeod Ganj. After deboarding at the airport, you will need to cover the remaining distance by some means of transportation like a cab.
By Train. The nearest railway station is the Pathankot Railway Station located at a distance of 90 km from Mcleod Ganj. After deboarding at the station, you will need to cover the remaining distance by a cab.
By Road. Depending upon your location, you can consider travelling to Mcleod Ganj by road as well. For this, you can take your own vehicle or also book a bus
