It is the suburb of Dharamshala in Kangra district and is also known as the Little Lhasa or Dhasa as pronounced by the residing local Tibetans of the region. History of Mcleod Ganj

Named after Donald Mcleod who used to be the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab during the 1850s, Mcleod Ganj, over the time has went on to become perhaps one of the most loved tourist destinations in India. This place was devastated in 1905 due to an earthquake. Then, with the passage of time, in 1960, that Dalai Lama had arrived here. His arrival here ensured that Mcleod Ganj became a splendid centre of attraction for Tibetan and Buddhism cultures.

1. Bhagsu Falls

Following Buddhism, the Namgyal Monastery has very peaceful vibes to it. The place also consists of multiple temples, shrines bookstores and other memorial shops. It is believed that the foundation of this monastery was laid down sometime in the 16th century by the second Dalai Lama.

By Air

The nearest airport is Gaggal Airport. It is located at an approximate distance of 20 km from McLeod Ganj. After deboarding at the airport, you will need to cover the remaining distance by some means of transportation like a cab.

By Train

The nearest railway station is the Pathankot Railway Station located at a distance of 90 km from Mcleod Ganj. After deboarding at the station, you will need to cover the remaining distance by a cab.

By Road
