The opening timings of the zoo are from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Apart from that, the best time to visit Kangra in Himachal Pradesh would be during summer, courtesy its pleasant weather even when the many other parts of India suffer from the scorching heat. 

Major Attractions in and Around Gopalpur Zoo

1. Himalayan Black Bear. Meet the scary but cute black Himalayan bears in the Gopalpur Zoo. Fundamentally, they are considered as a subspecies of the Asian black bears. Its small girth, fur and a small white mark on the chest make it stand apart from the rest of the lot.

2. Muntjacs. The barking deer or Muntjacs are the charismatic ones in the zoo. It is believed that these bears came into the wildlife scene about 15-35 million years ago. In the Asian boundaries, these species can be found in India, Myanmar and Indonesian islands. 

3. Photography. The cute animals here will urge you to click as many amazing pictures as possible. And you surely wouldn't want to miss out on the pics of such adorable beings.

How to Reach Gopalpur zoo

Gopalpur Zoo is one of the most exciting places in Himachal where you can visit with your loved ones, especially children. It is located 477, 1,891, 2,000, 2,653 km from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru respectively. Check the deets below on how you can reach Gopalpur Zoo.

By Air. The nearest airport is Gaggal Airport (DHM) aka Kangra Airport, in the Kangra District situated (approx) 30 km away. Spread over an area of about 1200 acres, the terminal building of the airport can handle (approx) 100 passengers at a time. The airport has good flight connectivity with nearby Indian cities. However, it is recommended to take connecting flights from Delhi and Chandigarh. After deboarding the flight, you will need to cover the remaining distance via cab or some other means of public transportation like a bus.

By Rail. Travelling via train can also prove to be a great experience, especially for a person travelling for the first time. The nearest railway station is the Pathankot railway station (PTK) which is situated 100-130 km away from the Zoo. This station is located at an altitude of about 331 meters. As you deboard your train, you will need to cover the remaining distance by hiring a local taxi or via bus.

By Road. One can also choose to travel to this place via road. The roads to Kangra are accessible via nearby regions. There are interstate/private buses which are readily available from other cities along with taxi services. As per your convenience, you can choose to travel in either or if you want to travel at your own pace, then the ideal option would be to self-drive.
