Situated in the Uttarkashi District, on the bank of Yamuna River, this gem of a place is a major stopover for the Hindu devotees heading to perform the pilgrimage at Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham.

The pretty little town offers a mesmerizing view of the Bandarpoonch Peak along with some other imposing Himalayan Peaks. Barkot is a perfect destination to unwind at, and it is a place that can be great for those seeking some spiritual experience as the environ and nature together create a magical and divine ambience that any soul in the world cannot resist.

Major Attractions in and Around Barkot

1. Yamunotri Dham. Yamunotri Dham is one of the holy places where thousands of devotees can be witnessed during festivals and special Hindu days. 

2. Bandarpoonch Peak. The majestic and mystic Bandarpoonch Peak is one of the mighty peaks that keeps you stuck in the view.

3. Surya Kund. Surya Kund is one of the hot water springs in Yamunotri. Pilgrims and hardcore worshippers pay a visit here as it's renowned for the high temperature of the water which is 190 degrees F. The water is used to cook rice and potatoes by tying it in a soft cloth to take it back home as prasad.

4. Trekking. Hike your way from one place to the other as Barkot offers many trekking opportunities. Hanuman Chatti is best known as the base point of trekking trails like Yamunotri Dham, Dawra Top, and Dodi Tal.

5. Shopping. Taking souvenirs back home is a must and when in Barkot you get to choose from a variety of handcrafted paintings, warm shawls, other essential woollens and artefacts styled the Tibetan way.

6. Sightseeing. The lush greenery and thick forest, migratory birds create an alluring spectacle to bind your eyes to explore more.

7. Sports Activities. Give your vacation a dose of the wild side by enjoying adventure sports like mountain climbing, rock climbing and other activities that are offered in and around Barkot.

How to Reach Barkot  

Air. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport. After reaching the airport, you can take the bus or taxi service to reach Barot Hill Station.

Rail. The nearest railway station is the Dehradun Railway Station. When you reach the station, you can find a bunch of buses, taxis are aligned to take you to the Barkot Hill Station.
