History Of Bokaro

The Bokaro district was formed on April 1, 1991, while carving out some parts of other districts of Jharkhand. These are Chas and Chandankari of Dhanbad District and Bermo Subdivision of Giridih District. According to earlier history texts, Bokaro was a small part of the Manbhum region. Manbhum region was named after Raja Man Singh who was the loyal army chief in the reign of Akbar. Manbhum was a gift to Raja Man Singh by Akbar. Later, it was divided into three parts Birbhum, Manbhum, and Singhbhum. It was mostly inhabited by the people of the Kolar Race. Before the 7th century, it was dominated by Jainism. After that, Brahmins dominated this region as it can be traced from the travelogue of Chinese traveler Hiuen Tsang.

1. Jawaharlal Nehru Biological Park

This biological park in Bokaro is very popular among locals and visitors. This park is home to Asiatic Lions, Tigers, and other wildlife species. Kids, especially, love visiting this park and have fun watching big cats in their element.

2. Parasnath Hills

It is interesting to know that this place holds high significance for the Jain community of the country. This is a hillock that is situated in the Giridih district of Jharkhand and is only a few kilometers away from the city. It is named after 23rd Jain Tirthankar, Parasnath. It is believed that it is here at Sammet Shikhar, most of the Jain Tirthankaras found deliverance. The area is peppered with approximately 20 temples some of which date back to 2000 years. 

3. Bokaro Steel Plant

This is the identity of Bokaro. Located along the banks of River Damodar, it is one of the firstSwadeshi Steel Plants. When visiting this plant, go for a guided tour where you will get to see steel manufacturing processes. Check how raw material is handled and then send through different processes to manufacture high-quality steel. 4. Picnics

There is no doubt in the fact that picnics are one of the most loved activities people generally like to indulge in. And, as Bokaro has several beautiful parks, it makes all the more sense to visit this place. City Park is one of the famous gardens in the city. The park has three artificial islands and an artificial lake. It is well-landscaped and looks beautiful with a riot of colourful flowers all around. 

5. Garga Dam

Flowing in the southern part of the city, this dam was constructed in the 1950s and with time has become one of the best tourist spots in Bokaro. It is built on Garga River which is a tributary of River Damodar. It is also one of the first artificially constructed river valley projects in the country. 

6. Boating

The city park comprises many artificial lakes and all of this makes it a good option for boating.
