Travel Influencers Lockdown Period

Flatten the Curve, Not Your Spirit! Take a Cue from Travel Influencers for Right Use of Lockdown Period

Ever since COVID-19 has hit the world, it seems we all are on a standstill. The self-quarantine and the lockdown period are taking a toll on our mental health but do you ever wonder why is it so? We always wanted a break from our monotonous life, to spend quality time with our family and our own selves. However, now that we are getting it, we are unable to make the full use of it.

While the lockdown has been implemented for a greater good, which you too would agree to, it is becoming really difficult to kill our time at home by the day. But think about those who have been travelling since forever now and are now locked in their houses - the travel influencers.

We asked 6 popular travel influencers of India how are they spending their quarantine period during the pandemic and their replies certainly would inspire you and give you ideas to make the most out of this period. Here we go!

Archana And Vidur - Travel My Nation

Well as you know we are full-time travel bloggers and normally would spend a lot of time on the road. But since the lockdown, all our trips have been cancelled and now it's been more than a couple of weeks since we have travelled anywhere.

Our time now is being utilized in content creation projects we undertake from clients all over the world. Along with this, we are also busy in launching our own travel start-up, Moto Overlanders. For this, the launch date was March end but due to the current situation, we have pushed the launch a bit.

But there is still a lot of work that needs to be done for the company and we have been working feverishly to get it done as soon as possible. This involves content creation, curation of the package, contacting vendors, partners and doing tons of research!

Preethi - Peppy Travel Girl

It’s definitely a challenging time for travellers - especially full-time travellers like me; because we’re not used to staying indoors this long, but it’s necessary and the right thing to do for the greater good. While it’s easy to feel low about this, I’m choosing to see it as an opportunity. I’m clearing up my backlog - articles for my website, videos for clients. This lull is also a good time to take a step back and take a look at what I want to do with my life once this whole thing blows over.

Along with that, I’m also taking this time to go back to things I love doing. I’m pursuing hobbies like dance and music, catching up with friends over video calls and trying to cook up fun things every other day. The major reason to do all this is to keep myself occupied! Yes, it’s difficult, but the important thing is we’re all in this together and we’ll come out of it stronger. Take care and stay safe!

Niharika - The Iffy Explorer

I am a full- time travel blogger. Even in this lockdown, I am involved in completing lots of pending tasks like Vidoe editing, writing blogs, planning Instagram content and developing more ideas for my YouTube channel. When I am completely bored with all these things, I get myself busy with old hobbies like painting, doodling, gardening, reading etc. As of now, how this one month passed for me, I am still clueless about it, probably because I didn't sit empty-handed even for a day. This period has given me all the time in the world to be even more ambitious and cultivate my creativity.

Dev - Footloose Dev

I think for all full-time bloggers who stay on the road 365 days a year, this quarantine time is just the perfect excuse to stay back home and finish all the pending work. And that's exactly what I've been doing - writing pending articles and finishing pending videos for my Youtube channel.

Other than this, I have signed up for a couple of digital marketing courses, to learn a bit more about the art and its scope. Not to mention, this is an ideal time to stay with your family, cook together, eat together, and tell stories that needed to be told for a long time! Happy quarantine days everyone! Stay safe, stay indoors!

Nivi Selvaraj - Postcard Chronicles

As a travel blogger and full a time marketer, life was always busy before quarantine situation. Given the fact that we are all staying home these days, life has given me a chance to slow down a bit, spend some quality time with family, learn new skills and to try my hand at other things that I love apart from travelling.

For instance, I personally love to paint and indulge myself in activities that involve colours in general. I usually paint postcards from the places I travel, so I decided to make use of the time on my hand and also do something nice for my community. Hence I recently did a postcard giveaway on my Instagram, wherein I asked people to share their favourite travel memory and the selected ones will receive a hand-painted postcard from the destination of their choice. It was really interesting.

I have also recently started a free painting class for my followers. Apart from painting, I write blog articles every day, catching up on all the places I forgot to document before. And my evenings are usually spent between workout, reading and chatting with family. For some reason, Netflix has taken a backseat with other activities gaining priority. However, once in a while, I watch documentaries on Netflix, my favourite being Chasing Corals.

Swati Saxena - Lost In Maps

These are certainly difficult times for everyone but more so for people, who still need to go out and travel in regards to the nature of their work, to come back home. And then there are those who are looking for a shelter, to just stay alive.

While we have the options to choose from books to read, recipes to try and online courses to learn from, they are only walking ahead because what else they can do. So, taking the lockdown period as an opportunity, I'm using my time to pool in funds through friends and family. After I have collected a substantial amount of funding, I will transfer the money directly to bank accounts of migrant labourers, who are stranded on the streets.

With a huge network of organizations working on the frontline, I'm fortunate to have a credible list of people in need right now. So, I'm focusing on that as much as I can. Apart from this, reconnecting with friends over long calls, making art, writing a bit and counting my blessings has become an essential part of my everyday life.
