Gudibande fort is located in the Chikkaballapur district of the state of Karnataka. Around 400 years ago in the 17th century, a yogi and a local chieftain called Byre Gowda built the Gudibande Fort. It is said that the yogi belonged to the Tuluva dynasty of the Vijaynagar empire. It is believed that the Gudibande Fort is a concise replica of the Madhugiri Fort. To help soldiers flee in case of emergency, the fort has seven levels with interconnecting escape routes. Established by Sage Vishwamitra and Lord Rama which is believed to be one of the 108 Jyotirlingas, a Shiva Temple called Sir Rameshwara Temple is situated on the top of the fort. The view of Byrasagara reservoir from the top of the fort and the sculpted images on square-based pillars are a sight to behold. With around 19 rock ponds at different levels of the fort, the fort’s main feature is rainwater harvesting.
