Pithoragarh is a Himalayan town in the western region of the state of Uttarakhand. It is the largest city in the state having a municipal board. The city is highly important from the defence point of view and also a beautiful place from the tourist point of view. The city shares an international border with China and Nepal and hence there is a fair amount of strictness and alertness in the city. There are many beautiful escapes within the district of Pithoragarh. Also, the place is home to various tourists’ attractions like the valleys, the temples, reserve forests, and many other forts to explore.

Munsiyari is one place where people can go beyond Pithoragarh which is also a part of the district itself. The roads are yet too smooth and are really narrow and people only prefer travelling by car or bikes. One can capture the amazing view of the peak of the Himalayas which makes this place utterly ravishing. Places to visit in Pithoragarh


The Munsiyari is a small and gorgeous town in the Himalayas which is situated at a distance of around 127 km from Pithoragarh. It can be said that it is no less than a paradise of wildflowers, lake and other raw forms of nature. Moreover, it is also considered as the gateway to the Himalayan range’s Johar region.  


Chandak is a hill which is basically a small trek located on the north side of the Soar valley. This place is located at a distance of around 8 km from Pithoragarh offering its visitors a sense of adventure in the form of hang gliding.

Kafni Glacier Trek

The picturesque beauty of this place is out and out amazing and carries an unbeatable charm. The Kaphini Glacier lies on the left side of the Pindar Valley below the famous peak of the Nandakot.

Things to do in Pithoragarh

Visit Didihat which is out and amazing tucked in the eastern corner of the Uttarakhand. No doubt that Didihat is quite a wondrous and a pristine hillock which is full of natural beauty.

Visit Gangolihat which is again an awesome destination to visit and explore. It is enriched with ancient culture and the legendary myths. The major attractions of this place are Mahakali Temple which has been devoted to Lord Shiva.

Visit Narayan Ashram which is located at a distance of 44km from Pithoragarh. It is a place of really great importance to the local people in terms of religious vibe. This ashram was founded by Narayan Swami in the year of 1936. It serves as spiritual as well as an education centre.

How to reach Pithoragarh?

By Air - The nearest airport to Pithoragarh is situated in Pantnagar and is quite famous as Pantnagar Airport. This airport is located at a distance of around 241 km from Pithoragarh in the Nainital district. From there, you will have to catch a taxi or some other means of transportation.  

By Road - This town is quite well connected via road network which connects it with all the major destinations of Uttrakhand. Taxis and buses are usually available to Pithoragarh.

By Train - The nearest railhead to Pithoragarh is located in Tanakpur and is situated at a distance of 138 kilometres. The travellers can easily get a great number of buses and taxis to reach their exact destination from outside their railway station.
