In 1901, Mussoorie had become a popular place due to which its population touched about 6,461, and in the same year, in the summer season, it grew to about 15,000 inhabitants. It was also the same five-year period between 1900-1905 when railways were introduced in the region. Due to this, the travel distance to Mussoorie that was 93 km (by road) was shortened to about 34 km.
