1. Conquering Mount Everest is no ordinary sport, especially when you can’t see. A 46-year-old man from China has now become the first blind man in Asia to conquer the mighty Mount Everest peak. Zhang Hong accomplished this unbelievable task from the Nepal side of Everest and says that all you need is a really strong mind to make it happen.
This incredible task was done on May 24 with the help of three altitude guides. After making the world’s most famous climb, Hong returned to the base camp on May 27.
2. To revive tourism in the region, Phuket has started a 14-day travel program named "Phuket Sandbox". This travel initiative is open to three territories and 63 countries. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, travelers must carry insurance proof up to $100,000 along with a Certificate of Entry. The insurance money will be used for COVID-19 treatment (in case).
President of the Phuket Hotels Association, Anthony Lark said, "For people who have been closeted up in their apartments for 16 months, the idea to fly to Thailand where there's a beach and you're a normal guest, yes you're being quarantined here but this is more than 500 square kilometers of quarantine and you've got national parks, golf courses, you can go diving — it's really not a quarantine".
3. There’s good news for Indian travelers who have been waiting to travel to the Maldives. The government of Maldive has announced plans to resume visa-on-arrival for Indian tourists from July 15. Travelers will have to produce a negative RT-PCR test report to enter the country, as per the Maldivian Tourism Ministry.
The Ministry of Tourism of Maldives also tweeted, "Maldives will start issuing on-arrival tourist visas starting 15th July to tourists traveling from South Asia. Tourists require negative PCR results to enter the Maldives. Further details will follow accordingly".
4. A delightful update for all wildlife lovers! The famous Jim Corbett tiger reserve has re-opened its gate to tourists. Not just this, it is now open for year-round tourism. Rahul, Corbett's Director, informed that Jim Corbett’s five popular ranges, Dhela, Bijrani, Garjia, Pakhron, and Dhara-Jhirna, will now remain open for day visits for the whole year.
Set in the foothills of Uttarakhand, Corbett is popular for its population of tigers. The park was closed down to tourists during the second wave of COVID-19 in India. Now, with COVID numbers reducing in the country, all the ranges in the park have opened for tourism.
5. Think twice before clicking selfies the next time you visit Saputara! Also, make sure you keep this new rule in mind while roaming around any other tourist attraction in the Dang district of Gujarat.
According to the latest reports, Gujarat’s Dang is the first district to impose such a ban, especially at places that draw a huge number of visitors. So yes, if you are caught clicking a selfie at any tourist attraction in Dang, you will be committing a crime that will invite police action.
