History of Mehtab Bagh

The last Mughal-built gardens out of the eleven gardens, the construction of Mehtab Bagh was done by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. For this, he had identified a site from the floodplains of Yamuna as the perfect place to build a garden.

Thus, Mehtab Bagh was constructed with white plaster walkways, airy pavilions, fountains, and fruit trees. This garden was designed as an important part of the . However, later on in history, the garden was ruined due to the floods and by the 1990’s it had depleted into a ruckus of wild vegetation.

How to Reach Mehtab Bagh

Mehtab Bagh is located alongside the Yamuna River, in the Dharmapuri locality, Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is 7-8 kilometres away from the Taj Mahal. The Agra city is well-connected with other regions of the country.

By Air

One of the nearest airports is Kheria Airport which is almost 13 kilometres away from the Mehtab Bagh. After deboarding at the airport, you can hire local transport such as bus, taxi or auto to reach the Mehtab Bagh.

By Rail

Deboard at the Agra Cantt railway station. After reaching the station, the journey becomes much easier, you can take local battery auto-rickshaw, buses and other modes of transport that will take you to the garden.
