Meerut is quite an intriguing place to visit due to many reasons, such as its culture, food, and many other things. However, majorly, this city is known for its ongoing development as it is quite old in terms of its historical background. While it has witnessed many things change, what has always remained constant about Meerut is its unchanging hustle.
What makes Meerut really interesting, apart from its historical background, is a number of spooky tales which people tell about it. Many people claim and also believe that Meerut has quite a few haunted places. Perhaps, the reason behind such a belief are the abandoned buildings that have not seen residents for decades.
And one such place existing here goes by the name GP Block. It's essentially a group of three buildings that have been abandoned for a prolonged period of time. The walls ravaged with time, along with the foliage that covers the buildings from every possible direction, have an air of eeriness around it that defines the fundamental nature of GP Block, that is, haunted.
The word is out there that GP Block is haunted by evil spirits. Sightings of a woman sitting on the roof of the buildings have been reported many times in the past as well and a great number of people have claimed to have seen the same. On the other hand, some have also claimed to see a woman wearing red clothes getting in and out of the house. What is really disturbing is that these things keep on repeating themselves on the roof of the house which has remained vacant for as long as it can be. Due to all this, people have completely stopped taking this route in the present times.
1. St John’s Church. It is one of the oldest churches located in Northern India. What really makes it amazing is the fact that it can accommodate around 3,000 people in one go. It was constructed sometime around 1819-1821 and has been built in a very traditional style.
2. Digambar Jain Temple. For those looking for spiritual awakening, this temple offers great insight into the Jain culture. It feels as if this temple holds all the answers to the problems of the devotees and perhaps which is why it has been famously said that it was built by the Gods themselves. Many also believe it to be a place full of grace as a lot of people are granted their wishes here.
3. Shapir. It is basically a mausoleum that was made in the Mughal Era by the Queen, Noor Jahan in1628 to honour the Muslim Hazrat Shahpeer who is also known to be the teacher of Emperor Jahangir. This mausoleum is built of red sandstones that make a stark contrast against the clear sky which is simply a delight to the eyes of the devotees.
4. Vidur Ka Tila. It is believed that this area was also one of the former abodes of Vidura - one of the intellectual ministers of the Kauravas. Situated on the banks of River Buriganga, this place is an ideal spot to visit with one’s family and spend some quality time.
