History of Gurugram

As per the historical records, the region of Gurugram fell under the Kuru Kingdom. And the earliest people to establish this city were the Hindus, who belonged to the Ahir clan particularly during the Vedic era. By the time of the early 4th Century BCE, this geographical region was absorbed by the Mauryan Empire. And according to the ancient texts of Prithviraj Vijaya, this town may have been Gudapura in the past.

Coming on to modern history, it has been mentioned in the historic texts that Nagarjuna, who was also the cousin of Cahamana king rebelled against Prithviraj Chauhan in order to capture the town. However, Prithviraj Chauhan due to his might and intellect was able to successfully suppress the rebellion.

In the Mughal period and as well as the British Colonial era, this place remained a small village for a significant time.
