Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is a Hindu festival that typically lasts for one day. It falls on the tenth day of the Hindu lunar calendar month of Ashwin (usually in September or October). The festival marks the victory of good over evil and has different significance and legends associated with it, depending on the region of India.

While Dussehra itself is a one-day festival, the preceding nine days leading up to Dussehra are celebrated as Navratri, a period of worship, dance, and fasting in honor of the goddess Durga or other forms of the divine feminine. Navratri culminates on the tenth day, which is Dussehra.

In some regions, such as Mysore in Karnataka, India, Dussehra is celebrated over a more extended period, often spanning ten days, with various cultural events and processions. However, the core festival of Dussehra is still observed on the tenth day.
