Many people love travelling and knowing about different cultures and their specialities, but I, honestly, was not a travelling soul and was quite lazy to go anywhere in the holidays. However, this was a myth, soon going to be broken with my visit to Shillong.
I was not very enthusiastic about travelling but under the obligation of parents, I had no other choice. We took a flight from Delhi to Guwahati; so what's interesting in it? The fact that it was a family trip made that flight quite special and we reached our destination within 2 hours with the most precious memories and selfies.
The Guwahati airport was quite beautiful with cultural artworks and murals all around. I am an artist, and I got quite fascinated by those beautiful pieces of art. So I started getting a good feeling about the trip and got quite excited.
We reached at our native's place at Umroi(a place in Meghalaya, a little away from the main city of Shillong) for the stay, so we didn't have to spend on accommodation and it was quite beneficial because the conveyance fee of travelling from Umroi to Shillong's tourist places was quite high as there was no other option than booking a private vehicle.
However, the cost was worth it because the road trip was quite fascinating with beautiful sceneries all around and I loved the chilly air passing through my face (it was heavenly).
The places that I visited were the most popular tourist places like Kamakhya Temple, Mawsmai Cave in Cherrapunji, Elephant Falls, Shillong Peak View Point, Umiam Lake, Mawsynram and more. They were all the most delightful and full of greenery spots with such a serenity that is very difficult to describe in words.
Mawsynram is the wettest place in India and during the trip, all my family members were wet because of the constant drizzle. So here's a set of advice, carry an extra garment when going to these tourist places and carry a few umbrellas and raincoats as you can :)
Awesome architecture, one can remain appreciating it endlessly. The temple is situated on the top of a hill and there is a good arrangement of parking. There is an array of shops with cute, cultural and religious items. The atmosphere inside the temple space is quite serene.
