Kerala is all dwelled up in festivals and that is largely because of the number of temples it resides. The land is extremely rich in culture and traditions and Aarattu festival is a perfect example for the same. Aarattu is a word for Holy Bath which takes place at the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple in Thiruvananthpuram. It is more of a ritual which is being carried from several years in the state. The festival is celebrated for good 10 days and that too twice a year. Once in the months of October-November and then in the months of March-April.
The festival is celebrated by taking the idols to give a holy bath in sacred waters and this procession is accompanied by a head of a royal family which looks ravishing.
The procession is accompanied elephants as well. There are beautiful folk performances like the peacock dance etc.

The festival is celebrated at a temple in Thiruvananthapuram which is the capital city of the state of Kerala. People can fly or go by rail or road to the city as it is very well-connected to the rest of the country.
