It is an important part of the culture of Kerala and people adore it from years. It is not a newbie festival added to the list of celebrations happening in the state but is being organized religiously from 1952.

The Nehru Trophy boat race happens at the Punnamda lake in Alappuzha where thousands of people gather to see the race and cheer them. The excitement level goes on some another level altogether. People distributed in teams get a chance to participate in the races and fight against each other in the backwaters of Kerala.
