Every year in summer, Yelagiri hill station is filled with enthusiasm when it comes to celebrating nature. The hill station organises different events to show its culture and heritage. Organised by Tamil Nadu Tourism Development, you will get to enjoy a variety of activities and events that can be cherished lifelong. The festival can be enjoyed for 4 months, starting from June through September, where you get to know all about Yelagiri. In fact, not just Yelagiri, Ooty also celebrates a similar summer festival, attracting thousands and lakhs of people every year.
The Flower Show. One of the most popular shows of this festival is the Flower Show that showcases different flowers of the Nilgiri Region. About 250 exhibitors participate in the show. Here, you will get to enjoy a quiet ambiance and serene beauty of nature. Apart from the local flowers, they also exhibit international flowers, the most popular of them being Japanese Flower Arrangements. Also, different creative interpretation of flowers can be seen here. Flower rangoli, vegetable carvings, etc. are some of the examples.
Dog Show. It is organized by the South India Kennel Club at Government Art College in Ooty where you will get to meet several four-legged furballs. The event boasts a variety of dog breeds such as Pug, Bulldog, Beagle, Poodle, and whatnot.
Cultural programs. Another grand show that is completely magnificent is the cultural one which showcases dance and music programs of a different taste. This event leaves the audience mesmerized with folk dance and drama of students and professional artists, telling local stories through their performances.
The Rose Festival. The Rose Festival is another beautiful part of the fest that one can experience. Held at Government Rose Garden, different roses are showcased in different ways. One can admire the tower of roses or Rangolis that is made by several colourful roses. Approx 3000 varieties of roses can be seen at the event.
The Spice Show. Held in Saint Thomas Secondary School at Gudalur, the do runs for two days. Here, you will get to see the wealth of locally-grown spices right from cardamoms to cinnamon. Also, they arrange beautiful food gift packs of these spices that you can gift your friends and family.
The Fruit Show. The other extravaganza of The Fruit Show is organized by the Department of Horticulture. The fruit arrangements in different shapes are amazing. The show is displayed at Sim’s Park in Coonoor.
Air. The closest airport to Yelagiri Hill Station is Bangalore International Airport. It is situated at a distance of 160 kilometers from Yelagiri. After reaching the airport, you need to take a taxi or other local commuting option to reach Yelagiri.
Rail. The nearest railway station is Jolarpettai Railway Station which is just 20 kilometers away from Yelagiri. From the station, you can easily get a taxi/cab from here.
Road. Yelagiri Hill Station is well-connected to other neighbouring regions of Tamilnadu. One can easily get taxi, bus or auto to reach Yelagiri. Also, traveling by car can be a fun experience for you. From Bengalore to Yelagiri, you have to take NH4 and NH234. It will take almost 4 hours to reach the destination.
