Located at a distance of around 22 kilometres from Srinagar this park is known for covering an immense area of around 500km2. And if we go by the name of this park then it literally stands for “ten villages”. It is said that these ten villages were there in this region even before the beginning of World War I. However, this park has been protected since the year 1910. First, it was under the care of the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir and then later it was under the observation of the concerned government authorities. What is really interesting is the fact that on an initial level this park was created to ensure the clean drinking water supply for Srinagar. It was after that it was then upgraded and also declared as the National Park in the year of 1981.
