Anantnag is considered as one of the most beautiful parts of the Kashmir valley. The gushing streams, the vast skies make this place no less than heaven for you. Anantnag is regarded as the commercial and financial capital of the Kashmir valley which is quite interesting to know, isn’t it? Furthermore, this place is situated at a confluence of the three streams, Arapath, Brengi and Sandran. Apart from that, there is another stream which joins the river a little downstream and the view is simply majestic. Hey, did you know that in the earlier times, it was this river which was the main source of transportation for the people.

Places to visit in Anantnag

Martand Sun Temple

This temple has been dedicated to the Surya God and was constructed somewhere between the 7th-8th century. The temple is located at a distance of around five miles from Anantnag. So, if you visit Anantnag then you can plan on travelling to this amazing tourist spot.

Amarnath Cave

The Amarnath Cave is located at a distance of approximately 46 km from Anantnag. And the best time to visit this place would be during the time of procession as the whole atmosphere is quite liberating during this particular time.

Kishtwar National Park

This national park is spread over an area of around 400 sq.km. What is really interesting to know is that this place is home to approximately 15 mammal species which includes the musk deer, the Himalayan and the brown bear.

Jhelum River

The Jhelum river is known as the largest and the most western of the five rivers of the Punjab region. The vastness of this phenomenal river is something which compels the tourists to ponder upon nature and its musings. 

Visit Ziarat Baba Hyder Reshi Shrine

This shrine is quite well known for its spiritual significance. Located in the Danter village, this place attracts a number of devotees from all across the country who believe in Baba and his power. 

Visit Manasbal Lake

The Manasbal lake is located at a distance of approximately 60 km from Sri Nagar. This place is a heaven for the bird-watchers as here, a great variety of exotic species of birds can be found.

Best time to visit Anantnag

The best time to visit Anantnag is during the summer months. As during these months, the overall temperature is quite great for sightseeing. 

How to reach Anantnag? 

By Air - The nearest airport from Anantnag is Srinagar Airport which is located at a distance of around 62 km from Anantnag. From there, you will need to either get a cab or some other means of transportation.

By  Road - The connectivity via road is quite average thus it is suggested to take a cab as an alternate travel option. But you will need to know that your driver does have the proper experience for driving in the hilly region.

By Train - The nearest railway station is the Banihal railway station. However, there is no direct train between New Delhi and Anantnag.
