History of Churdhar 

Churdhar is also known as Churichandni for its incredible beauty. The Churdhar peak lies in the Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh. The place is filled with beautiful landscapes and surrounded by magnanimous hills. Legends have it that this is the peak where Lord Hanuman found the Sanjeevani plant that cured Lakshmana (Lord Rama’s younger brother) and revied him. Today, the Churdhar peak is a famous tourist spot among north Indians.

Shirgul Maharaj Temple

The famous Shirgul Maharaj Temple is located in the Churdhar, Himachal Pradesh. Shirgul Maharaj is also known as Chureshwar Maharaj and his idol is worshipped by the locals in the temple. As per popular local folklores, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and it finds its mention in the sacred Hindu Puranas as well. The divine statue of Lord Shiva holds an electric aura that lightens the environment. People from all parts of the country arrive here to admire the statue and offer prayers. 

Churdhar Sanctuary

Churdhar is also known for its rich biodiversity. Get amazed by the awestruck wildlife creatures such as Musk Deer, Monal, Barking Deer and more at the sanctuary. The sanctuary is named after the Churdhar peak and is spread in an area of 56 square kilometers.

Best time to visit Churdhar

Churdhar Peak is primarily famous for trekking if you are planning a trip to the peak then you must consider the weather conditions in mind for packing clothes and planning the itinerary. The suitable months to visit Churdhar are between May to November. If you wish to witness snowfall then months of February and March are best.

How to reach Churdhar?

By Air. The nearest airports are Simla Airport and Chandigarh airport. After reaching the airport, you can hire a bus or taxi to reach Sarain which is the starting point of Churdhar Trek.

By Rail. The nearest railway station is the Kalka train station that is approx. 100km away from Churdhar. Trains from all major states and cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Chennai, arrive here.  

By Road. Tourists traveling from metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru have to cover nearly 350, 1,700, 1,800 and 2,500km respectively. Another way to travel via roadways is through inter-state and intra-state tourist buses. The only benefit of traveling by road is that one gets to witness the village life, and farms along the national highways and also the opportunity to taste the local food at roadside Dhabas.
