Lahaul-Spiti district now as one were two separate districts earlier in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Both the valleys are quite different from each other The district is connected to Manali through Rohtang Pass. It is difficult to get a permit to visit Lahaul district. The valley is home to snow leopards, musk deers, Himalayan brown bears, blue sheep etc. The valley is located near the Indian-Tibet border and has an influence of Tibet culture. Losar festival is celebrated here with utmost enthusiasm and fervour and is a must-witness festival of Himachal Pradesh. There are some Buddhist monasteries as well which are main learning centres of Buddhist culture and traditions.

Chandratal Lake

Chakhar Mela

It is celebrated once in the last week of every September. During this time, the people worship God Chikchait for a period of 6 days. Cham dance is also performed by the Lamas.

Kungri Festival

This festival is performed in the Kungri Monastery in the Pin Valley. In this festival also the Cham dance is performed by the Lamas people.

Khogla/ Halda

Best time to visit Lahaul And Spiti

The best months to visit Lahaul and Spiti would be between April to May. As it is during this time that the snow starts to melt and the roads also open for the tourists to pass and travel across.

How to reach Lahaul And Spiti?

The place is closed for 6 months during winters when the Rohtang Pass is closed. You can get here from Manali to enter into Lahaul valley. The nearest airport is near Kullu in Bhantur district and nearest railheads are in Shimla and Chandigarh.
