Narmada district is an administrative district in the state of Gujarat. The district is known for the beautiful Narmada river which is India’s one of the only two rivers that flow from east to west. The Narmada district is also home to the highest statue in the world which is known as the ‘Statue of Unity’ and is a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The city of Rajpipla is the district headquarters of the Narmada District and is the nearest city to the Statue of Unity. Narmada district is one of the least populated districts in the state of Gujarat and is surrounded by the Vadodara district and Maharashtra state.

History of Narmada District

Narmada District, even before the independence of India, was already one of the independent states, a Rajwadas that belonged to Rajpipla. The state was later dissolved and became the part of the Union of India but the name Rajpipla remained. Till the year 1997 Rajpipla was the name of the present-day Narmada District, but in 1997 Gujarat government carved out 6 new districts which were Narmada, Nandod, Dediyapada, Tilakwada Taluka, and Sagbara Talukas. Rajpipla was made the headquarters of the Narmada District. The present-day Narmada district comprises 222 village panchayats and 562 villages.

Statue of Unity

The newly developed tourist destination in the state of Gujarat is the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The statue has been named ‘Statue of Unity’ and is the tallest and the grandest statue made in the memory of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The statue is 182 meters in height. It is one of the prominent and biggest dams in the state of Gujarat. It supplies water and electricity to many nearby villages and states. Food of Narmada District, Gujarat

How to reach Narmada District?

By Rail. Vadodara is the nearest railway station and airport to the district. The railway station provides train services from all the major cities of India such as Mumbai, Jaipur, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Patna, Lucknow and more. Ranakpur Express, Gujarat Express, and Aravali express are a few popular trains on which tourists may make the reservations to reach Narmada District. From the Vadodra station, one has to take a taxi or a bus to cover another 90km to reach the Narmada district.   

By Road. Traveling by road is a journey full of adventures as one gets the opportunity to visit the villages, eat at roadside dhabas, enjoy driving at the national highways and capture the serene views of farms on both sides of the road. Tourists may either take the inter-state tourist bus to travel to the Narmada district, Gujarat or may take their personal vehicle. From Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru one has to cover nearly 1,000, 450, 2,000, and 1,300 km respectively.   

By Air. Vadodra Airport is the nearest airport to reach Narmada District. One has to cover another 90km to reach the main district by locally available transport such as a taxi or a bus. The airport receives regular direct and connecting flights from all parts of India hence booking tickets would not be a problem.
