Rourkela is also a planned city in the state of Odisha and is the third urban agglomeration in the state. It is beautiful city nicely decorated by the range of hills and also the rivers which enhance the beauty of the city even more. The city is also popularly known as Ispat Nagar and also as the Steel City of Odisha because of being home to one of the largest steel plants in India. The city is in its development phase and will soon become a smart city as chosen in the smart city list of 2016.
The transport system of the city is quite convenient for locals as well as people who are travelling to the city. It is well-connected by roads to other cities and also to the capital city of the state, Bhubaneshwar. Rourkela junction is the railway station serving the city which is connected to many other cities of the state and the country. There is no such commercial airport in the city for now but still people can commute to the International airport in Bhubaneshwar which is at a distance of 450 kms from Rourkela. One can take taxis, buses, or trains from the capital to the city.
